Since the weekend is finally here, I figured I would put the workout talk aside and discuss something a little more fun.....Food! I have been a stalker of Houston restaurants for a little over a year now and T'afia has always been my numero uno!
If you are looking for something to do early Saturday morning, you are in for a treat. Monica Pope, owner of T'afia, teaches a FREE (yes, free!) cooking class at 9:30 am every Saturday Morning. There is a small farmers market in and around her Restaurant until noon and she uses the fresh ingredients of the day to create artistic and delicious dishes for the audience. The best and possibly most important part is you get to sample everything. So, my suggestion to all of you this weekend is to get up early on Saturday, go for a nice long run and then head to T'afia to wander around the farmers market, have breakfast in the restaurant and then learn something new from one of the best chefs in town. Trust me, you will feel amazing afterward!
I am an avid believer in learning about your food. Some people (especially my pastrami loving coworker) will disagree, but I find it interesting. And it helps me to appreciate my food rather than gorge myself without even stopping to appreciate the creativity and thought that went into it. So, I will give you a tiny bit of info on the beloved T’afia…
T’afia comes from the word ratafia which is a fortified wine made with seasonal fruit. The word T’afia is also used as a toast and has two meanings: “to your health” and “the deal is done”. Monica Pope has helped Houston become a large supporter of local ingredients and her success in astounding. She is, well, awesome! Needless to say, you will be sure to find some unique and delicious cocktails. And here’s the best part…. Monday – Thursday you get two free appetizers with every cocktail you order. And this “happy hour” lasts until closing! Hope you all try out this local Houston favorite and if you do, let me know what you think!!
